Cursive writing is a style of penmanship in which some characters are written joined together in a flowing manner. Cursive writing actually trains the brain to use different parts for different functions like maintaining pencil grip, letter formation, and body posture. Cursive has the added benefit of being both artistic and highly personal. Developing a cursive hand—epitomized in the signature and carried through in a unique form of writing that others can identify and associate with a particular individual—is an important step in developing a personal style and voice. It allows you to be more imaginative, creative, enhances critical thinking skills, builds self-confidence, and creates better readers. When students write confidently and legibly, their academics as a whole seem to improve.
Print Writing also known as Block letters are a sans-serif (or “gothic”) style of writing Latin script in which the letters are individual glyphs, with no joining. In school children are often first taught to write in block letters, and later may be taught cursive (joined) writing. Learning Print handwriting first improves not just hand-eye coordination but also adds qualities of restraint and conscious thought. Many forms and teachers will request that a form or assignment be written in block letters to make it easier to read.
Devanagari (Sanskrit: deva, “god,” and nāgarī (lipi), “[script] of the city”) also called Nāgarī, script used to write the Sanskrit, Prākrit, Hindi, Marathi, and Nepali languages, developed from the North Indian monumental script known as Gupta and ultimately from the Brāhmī alphabet, from which all modern Indian writing systems are derived. In use from the 7th century and occurring in its mature form from the 11th century onward, Devanāgarī is characterized by long, horizontal strokes at the tops of the letters, usually joined in modern usage to form a continuous horizontal line through the script when written.
